Volunteering and Internships |
Interns and volunteers serve an invaluable role at MAP, making the daily operation of a not-for-profit art center both efficient and enjoyable, and our joint efforts in making contemporary art more accessible to the community even more worthwhile.
We are sincerely grateful for the assistance our interns and volunteers, both past and present, have lent to MAP.

About MAP Internships:
Maryland Art Place (MAP) hosts internships throughout the year for college students who are interested in gaining hands-on learning experience while working in a vibrant arts center. MAP’s programs and activities are varied, and an intern gains experience by lending their expertise in all departments.
Some tasks an intern may be asked to do include: assisting with gallery preparation and the installation and de-installation of exhibitions; working with the Registry Coordinator in organizing and maintaining Registry artists’ files, slide scanning, data entry; research for upcoming exhibitions; assisting with gallery talks and receptions; administrative support, etc.
Internship requirements vary according to an individual’s school stipulations and/or personal interests. It is helpful for prospective interns to possess a general knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and Photoshop. In addition, we look for those with a professional office demeanor and a strong desire to work independently on a wide variety of tasks. MAP internships are unpaid and do not include parking. MAP hours are 9 am-5 pm, Tuesday-Saturday.
We are currently accepting applications for Fall Internships. Please send a current résumé and letter outlining your interests in interning at MAP to Julie Ann Cavnor, Executive Director: jcavnor@mdartplace.org.
Become a Volunteer:
We have many opportunities for ongoing and special events volunteers—volunteer once a year or once a week!
Attend our spring and fall benefits for free when you contribute a few hours of your time on the day or night of the event. Lend a hand at our next Reception or Public Forum. Or get a little closer to the MAP family by helping out in the office more regularly—we always need an extra hand with bulk mail, filing, gallery reception, painting, and a host of other hands-on or computer tasks.
