Art on Call: Cultural Tourism DC is compiling a roster of available artists willing to work with neighborhood groups to install public art into DC's approximately 800 Police and Fire call boxes. Pieces communicate the special sense of place unique to each neighborhood, primarily via historic, cultural, and ethnic references. Callboxes are cast iron, vintage 1870-1940, approx. 6 feet high, and installed on sidewalks throughout the district. Allowable media include any that complement the call boxes and are sufficiently weather and tamper resistant for a life expectancy of 5-10 years. No lighting or other electrical components. Each neighborhood manages its own process including fund raising, artist selection, design jury, and installation. Paid compensation to artists negotiated by neighborhood groups. Examples: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ArtonCall/. For placement on the artist roster, please contact: Brendan Meyer 202-626-1138, bmeyer@culturaltourismdc.org. Funding for Art on Call comes from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Additional support comes from the District Department of Transportation.

Artists selected for mural projects receive an honorarium of $3,000 or more, depending in part on wall size. Artists 18 years of age or older who reside in the Baltimore Metro area are eligible. The Baltimore Mural Program provides all scaffolding and paint, and accepts applications at any time.
