Widespread paranoia about Big Brother may have gone down since its heyday in the 1950’s, but questions about individual security and privacy remain- not surprisingly, considering how easily we can get the dirt on our exes just by Googling them. This month, Maryland Art Place raises awareness about the role of media and global communications in out everyday lives. Artists include Victoria Crayhon, who provokes passers-by by posting out-of-place personal thoughts and messages on roadside movie marquees; Bethany Springer, whose installation-based work examines how the global communications system has enables a fast-paced and always accelerating lifestyle; and Mark Cooley and Edgar Endress, whose project “Dear Internet” takes a look at social relations and how they have been changed by the web.
